Fads and Trends

For this post I am going to be talking about different fads and trends involved in my life and the place that I work. I live and work on a cattle ranch my job is taking care of the Cattle and also doing predator control this means keeping track of all predators from a mountain lions to things as little as fox.

Hog hide Chaps

 

 These are hog hide chaps I would say that they are definitely a fad right now there are lots of people wearing them and lots of people that would like to have them but I don't think that they are going to change the way that people do things or will ever phase out the regular leather chaps I rely like these hog hide chaps they are very light and turn the brush well but I don't think they will be a trend.

Square toed Boots

These are square toed boots I think that they are only a fad because even though many people wear them they will never be used more than just regular boots I think this is something that will come and go may be more than once in my life time but never the less is a cool thing to wear right now. square toed boots have no advantages over any other boot other than just looking good They are known for there flat square end.

Cowboy honer jeans

 Cowboy honer jeans seam like just in the last few years have really came  to be something that a cowboy should have as pants to go out in they are made just specifically for cowboys and work pretty well I like them  and actually have a few pairs but I don't see them sticking around for a long time. Cowboy honor jeans are a fairly in expensive jean that are made to look like levie jeans.

Cutting calf's horns of to sale them

Most cattle that are a yearling or younger that are going to be sold will have there horns cut of to make them look like cleaner cattle and not show as much cross breading in the cattle I think this is only a trend and at some point if cattle already have horns you will see many people leaving that horn on there cattle to show the buyer what he is getting and let them decide what they should do with the horns.

Cool back Pads

Cool back pads have defiantly been a fad in the last 4 or 5 years this is a pad that goes between your saddle and the horses back most of the time with a second pad on top of it these pads work great to help keep a horse from dry-sweating and also to try to eliminate sores on a horses back.I think that this is a great think that should be a round for a while when something comes that is better it will be gone.

Gathering Wild Cattle

Gathering wild cattle is something that has changed the way ranches are run in Arizona as well as many other places I believe that without the work of people gathering these wild cattle of ranches there would be less ranches today this is something that is always going to be around and people will always have to do or hire people to do. Gathering wild cattle is something that has to be done wild cattle can become so many in numbers that they eat a ranch out of feed.

Running cattle in rough country is a trend that will always be hear and has changed the way we have to handle our cattle and utilize the country by having cattle that will use country that is rough and hard to get to you will have much more feed available for the cattle there for allowing you to run more cattle and have a better looking ranch.

using GPS tracking collars for our hounds and cow dogs has revolutionized the way we can hunt and use dogs to hold up cattle there is no need to be within ear shot of the dogs now so you can take your time and save your horse on the way up to whatever you are going to I think that the GPS tracking collar is going to be around for a long time.

Branding Calfs in the spring and fall

branding cattle in bolth the spring and fall is a trend but only in the south west there are very fiew ranches in the north west that will brand in the fall I think this is something though tat will be around forever you have to keep your cattle branded up or otherwise the chances for cattle being stolen go way up this picture is of a running iron it is used to be carried on horse back and you can draw any brand with it.

Brangus cattle are also a trend they are Part of what has maybe havering cattle in rough country possible they are a cross between a Angus and  Bramaha cattle they are a verry hardy cattle and should deffinatly stay around forever they have made rough country cattle a very doible thing.
